Background

Kalapara upazila  Under of Patuakhali district which established in ...... The running Upazila Council was elected and took charge in May-2009  Total area of the Upazila is 492.102sq.km, while total population is 2,37,831 in 57525households with population density of 484per Sq. Km  The Upazila parishad is only Forty eight kilometers away  from zila head quarter. The upazilais situated on the Bay of Bengal and is only twenty kilometers away from Kuakata tourist place.

KalaparaUpzilla is famous for her "Kuakata tourist place"Kuakatavery known to all. The land of these Upzilla are very fertile and crops grow heavily here. But most of the people here are poor and deprived. They also suffer from "Information" greatly and their style of life is very low. The people here are mainly "Bhumiheen" (landless).

Socio-economic condition:

. Like other upazila areas of this district, about forty percent people are below poverty line. Main occupations are agriculture, fishing, day labor, rickshaw/auto bike puller and small trades. The main crops are paddy. Fishing is a major source of livelihood. There is a Government Sonali Bank, Agrani Bank, Pubali Bank, Janata Bank, Sha jalal Islami Bank National Bank and also Grameen Bank, Sangram and ASA NGO have micro–credit/financing programs across the Upazila. Kalaparais a big market and also have 25/30 medium size village markets under this Upazila.

 

 

Disaster/Vulnerabilities:

Kalaparaupazila is one of the most vulnerable Upazila under Pautakhali zila and located at the mouth of the Bay of Bengal in the South of Bangladesh. Under this Upazila some Union are very remote area those are very vulnerable to natural disasters and is frequently hit by floods and cyclones. The people of Kalaparaexperienced seasonal cyclones at least twice a year – April-May, and October-November. Floods and cyclones hit almost every year and damaging houses and crops and especially sanitation system. Poverty is persistent due to natural disaster and low income growth. There is only one cyclone shelter under the upazila which is very old and not useable

 

Hard-to-Reach Areas, villages and communities:

Some of the Union are mentioned as hard to reach area in this Upazila and others internal communication is good with some pakka and katcha road linked with almost all villages and . Motor cycle, Picup and Ricksaw are usually used within the upazila for communication. Remote unions do face much difficulty to have access to social service facilities. Distance and communication mood are given below;

০৩। কর্মসূচীর অন্তর্ভূক্ত ইউনিয়ন সমূহে ইউনিয়ন ইনফর্মেশন বোর্ড ও ওয়ার্ড ইনফর্মেশন বোর্ড তৈরী করা হয়েছে যেখানে থেকে ঐ এলাকার 

      ঝুকি, বয়স ভিত্তিক শিশু সম্পর্কিত তথ্য , ইপি আই কাভারেজ, স্যানিটেশন ও পয়ঃ নিষ্কার্শন সম্পর্কিত তথ্য পাওয়া যাবে।

৪।  ইউনিয়ন পরিষদ ও সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্মকর্তা গণদেরকে প্রশিক্ষন প্রদান করা হয়েছে ফলে তাঁরা উর্ধমুখী পরিকল্পনা প্রনয়নের সক্ষম হবে।
